Yes ToneWrecker, Alex East, E Tones, Apollo, Chuck Love, Vaski, Dustin Zahn, Silent Servant, Nate Laurence are all names that maybe represent Minneapolis on a national or international level that aren't on this list.
I just want to take a second to address all of these comments, since there's been a few repeated themes:
This is the first year of what is planned to be an annual event. As such, it's gotta start somewhere. It's simply impractical to lock in every artist that each individual in this community would like to see, and believe us, we reached out to many many more DJ's than the list of confirmed artists. Some were out of town, some were uninterested in participating, some where thrilled, and ,unavoidably, some were overlooked(unfortunate and unintended, but you can't get up with everybody).
Also, as it is a free event, (and first year events rarely obtain large sponsorship opportunities), we also had budget concerns that needed to be kept in mind. While we understand and support artists desire to get paid for their craft, financial differences were not able to be reconciled with all the artists we were in talks with.
We are working hard to support all areas of the twin cities music scene, and this is our first attempt at an event highlighting electronic music. While some question the use of the term festival, We hope that this is merely a jumping off point, and welcome the support of any and all that want to make this an annual festival worthy of our great cities.
Ok, ok so I have one more question. Is Bach gonna teach us what hip hop really is or is he gonna try to keep insisting that T.I. is hip hop?
The line up is good, but to be a Electronic Music Festival, you are missing alot of things.
+ U missed the fact that 1000 kids show up to dubstep shows in Mpls, and knowing that there is a huge show in the loft on August 21st, I wouldn't expect anyone to be at this.
The show that is in the loft covers just about every style of Electronic Music everyone loves in this city
and this "Festival" covers Techno...and Ambient I guess. Awesome job?
I also love that you failed to have any sort of other MPLS promoter on this show aswell, considering you are doing a MPLS EDM festival.

WOW everyone cant be happy with what is coming and what could come.....
Everyone is too worried about how their plate isnt filled, or that they werent called to play, or that they werent consulted about how to throw an event....
Geez....
The guys at Shuga have been around for awhile, as well as have one of the largest record collections in the US, seriously before you complain, you better ask somebody. As far as just techno, I know I saw Lonnies name on the flier, and unless he spins techno now, there is going to be dnb. It looks like they tried to contact people, but get this minneapolis has a lot of techno floating around... meaning a lot of the names from here are going to be techno artists....
Instead of bitching about what should or could or isnt, try doing it yourself....
Also getting the city involved is crucial, because I remember hearing Lonnie play drum and bass in the middle of nicollet mall one night and that shit was fabulous......
Seriously get over yourself mnvibe
I love this. I love the fact that someone is taking a shot and diving into creating something that could potentially become a staple of a weekend during this summer and every summer from here on.
I would love to support and if you are interested in contacting me shuga, we could do some communicating for another idea as well and I would love to dj a techy ambient set if you still have a need for one.

Minneapolis.
I think some of ya'll are mad cos you didn't get the jump on doing it your own damn self. \
As Adam said. It's the first year, so drop the hackles and live and give a little credit to them for trying. Since it's free you know exactly how you're money will be spent so drop the attitude of having your toes stepped on.
You want stress? Try an event of this perceived scope in, say... Chicago.
You want to know the results of over a year and half of talk, and reaching out amongst locals while holding a whammy card of an out of country and prestigious promoter in the back pocket? Look at the Sonar Chicago line up. Study the grilling 5 magazine gave the DCA for attempting something that attempted to promote the bigger picture.
I'm also amused by this cos this is pretty much what I've been begging Minneapolis heads to do for several years now. Showcase what Minneapolis has done for the music. Move out from the dark rooms, fancy night clubs and the so called "underground" and make the case for the civic and cultural importance of the music for the twin ciites and midwest at large. Set aside the bs differences and stylistic squabbles and the irritating egos that come with the territories.

People need to stop bitching about this. Period. It's a free event...the city is pony'ing up the money for it...it's going to be a good time.
To be honest...there aren't too many people that can pull this off. Like I said earlier, i've had the opportunity to chat with Adam...and knowing what they needed to have in place to qualify to get this money, I promise there isn't anybody in this "scene" with the qualifications to secure it.
Are some people not going to be accommodated?
Yes.
Deal with it...it's not the end of the world. This is the first year and it's not like this was in the works a year ago. It's something that came together very recently. If your not playing...go and support...have a good time.

Yeah. Probably not a lot overall. It's most certainly not a musical backwater either. Qualitatively and quantitatively the list of midwest or even American exclusives speaks for itself... But.. You can also flip the question around, and ask it this way... what has dance music done to impact Minneapolis economically and culturally in the last 10 -12 years? There, I suspect you'll have a slightly different answer and I also suspect it's the correct one.

For those who didn't get booked: Bring down a few mix CDs (oh my god, a physical CD!) for the Shuga posse and shake some hands. You'd be surprised what some good ol' fashion schmoozing can do (as opposed to spamming people via FB) and you'll be helping to shape next years event and make it more of what you'd like to see. This doesn't have to get blown out of proportion and why burn bridges before anything's even happened yet?
Basically, if we make the first one a success, the next one will be bigger and then we can coordinate some main event for the evening, plus after parties, and make a weekend of it. It won't be DEMF, but it will be underground--and free.
I do agree though that there is a serious genre deficiency on this particular lineup, but perhaps the Suga crew isn't up to speed on the MPLS EDM scene history, so it's up to some of you to respectfully fill them in without being a dick about it.
My 2 cents.
wait... were you at the Midwest Electronic MF? Cause it sucks... so i hope you are being fictitious.... .
I'm really not sure if you are being serious or not here. If so, you are heading down the road to reallyl fucking jaded. It's a celebration of life, not to mention celebrating DANCING together.
And you're right, a lot of events are a bunch of bitching and whining about playing "one record on top of another for 30 seconds at a time". It doesn't have to be that way.
DANCE!What has Minneapolis done to really impact dance music as a whole in the past 10-12 years?
That's what we do.
We don't need to "impact dance music" (though one may argue, you, Mr. Z, have impacted dance music a lot in the last 5 yrs.)
We just want to dance!
you gotta be kidding me. Just because there aren't any "rave" genre DJ's, or trendy jump-on-the-bandwagon dubstep dj's does not mean everyone is playing techno. This isn't a rave, its a show during the day where people get drunk and play records, hopefully ones that aren't discreseful.

Everyone should stop bitching about the lineup.
The fact that he put Woody on there should be plenty to speak for his credibility. This isn't the "roots of Minneapolis" festival, its the Minneapolis electronic music festival. Everyone thinks that just because you are throwing some sort of event that might represent what the Minneapolis EDM scene is about, you have to stick to some unwritten guideline that states you need to book every last influential Minneapolis DJ that has ever lived. The truth is nobody under the age of 30 (excluding myself) would care.
This is about celebrating all aspects of the Minneapolis EDM scene. Past and present. People that worked their ass off to get us here, and people who are currently working their ass off to bring us somewhere else. It's also about going to a free event during the day, getting drunk in a parking lot, and watching all the younger kids that show up and making fun of them.
